Artits vs. Writers Workshop

Alex Shumacher and Mark Peaslee talking about the way the process works between them as an artist and a writer. Smart stuff and great advice.

One of the great ways to get better at what you do is to talk to people who do it well.

Art for the house.

Had to pick up a little something for the kitchen.

APE!!!!!!!!

On my way to APE. Hope to see you there. Be sure to follow @DaveMcNerny on Twitter to see where we're at.

Burning the Midnight Oil, Literaly

The A.P.E. is in a mere three days. I am working away, even though I have to be at my less than stellar day job in just a few hours. I just have a few more pieces to put together for preview booklet. If I don't hustle, you won't have anything to look at this weekend when you all flock to whatever clandestine location James and I will be manning, handing out preview booklets. If I can get done with enough time left over, I am hoping that I'll have a couple other little bits and pieces to hand out. All for free.

Tonight, I have a bit of a treat for you faithful tens of followers; a preview of the preview cover, just look down.

You can help make The Dating Misadventures of Young Dave McNerny a success by sharing links to this blog and to the Dave's Twitter feed with you friends.

A.P.E. on the Horizon

So A.P.E. is this weekend. We won't have a booth there this year, but what will have is a teaser for The Dating Misadventures of Young Dave McNerny. This should be buttoned up tonight, which means I will have some pictures to share tomorrow.

Who's excited, ME ME ME

Be sure to follow James, me, and of course Dave on Twitter and Facebook. We will be Tweeting our locations at the Con this weekend.

Inks a Plenty

I got to meet with James (illustrator) last night and things are moving along great. He has the first page inked, which we will be previewing soon, and once the color is done I can start on the lettering.

Meanwhile, I'm looking into the SF Zine Fest. We definitely won't have the book ready by then (it's September 3&4), but I may show up and hand out some promotional materials. Anyone out there have any experience with them? I think Dave may like it. I know I will . . . That's it. I'm going. Any takers?

Hope to see you there.

Getting Ready for A.P.E.

So over here at Hairball Comics (aka me in my office at home) we are working away. A.P.E. (Alternative Press Expo) is the goal. For those of you who have not been to A.P.E., it's a convention for indie comics, zines, and other small/self publishers. I include myself in those uninitiated few. I have been trying to go for a few years now, but something always seems to come up. What better way to set aside the time to go, than commit to having a comic there. I look forward to seeing you all there. All of you.

Also my personal newsletter, which includes lot's of updates about Dave launches tomorrow. If you are not on the list Sign up for the Newsletter!

Sketches Abound

I have finally scanned in all of James the Illustrator's sketches for the first Dave book. I'm not sharing them all, I need to keep you in suspense somehow. You can trust me though, they are all great. I have a few posted over on the Facebook page, but I will have a couple up here soon. You will have plenty of choices to enjoy the dating anti-hero that is Dave. If you find your way to Facebook, be sure to "Like" the page and share it with your friends.

In other Dave related news, work on the cover and poster is beginning soon. I have the Coffee Stop log done, thanks to Nathan Baird, and I'm looking for a vendor to get get some cups printed up.

Working away

Well, James has the sketches done and is working away at the pencils. I am grinding away at setting up all the marketing stuff such as: Facebook, Twitter, postcards and coming soon, a Kickstarter page. This is one of the original concept sketches. Check out the Facebook page to get a look at the sketches. We'll be sharing the art as it becomes available, so keep checking back.

Help get the word out and "Like" us on Facebook.
